Neymar da Silva, a player for Brazilian club Santos, tested positive for the coronavirus in recent days. Neymar missed training on Thursday and Friday due to illness before undergoing tests and testing positive for the virus.
Neymar was scheduled to attend a charity match at Vila Belmiro with a number of celebrities, prior to Brazil’s World Cup qualifying match against Paraguay. The funds raised were earmarked for charity. Neymar was sent off in his team’s match against Botafogo in the Brazilian league last week. He has made 12 appearances for Santos, scoring three goals and providing three assists. He joined Santos in January on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Saudi club Al-Hilal. Santos currently sits 18th in the Brazilian league with eight points.
